The Best Things to Do in Downtown Hanford
Spend an evening in Hanford's Civic Center Park and you'll be transported through time to a historical wonderland. Take a break from a hectic week with an evening stroll in this beautiful location.
Here are our favorite highlights:
Hanford's quaint Main Street hosts various live entertainment and festivals throughout the year. On Thursday evenings, from May through October, head downtown for the Thursday Night Marketplace; this festive farmers market also features theme nights and a beer garden.
The Carnegie Museum at Civic Center Park enlightens your historical walk with an elaborate display of Romanesque architecture. Opened in 1905 as a Carnegie Library, today the building functions as a concert and live entertainment venue, local information center, and historical museum for Hanford and Kings County.
Catch the latest blockbuster, plan ahead to attend a Saturday showing of a Throwback Film, or spend a quiet evening enjoying a silent movie at the Fox Theatre. This fully restored theatre has been in operation since the Great Depression. Fox Theatre also hosts live entertainment, so check the calendar and purchase your tickets in advance!
Take a spin on Hanford's central masterpiece, the 1939 Allen Herschell Company carousel. The carousel is one of only 213 surviving wooden carousels from this Art Deco era. Truly a beauty, select your seat at one of three rows of horses or one of two chariots.
Freddy the Firetruck
Enjoy a scenic, evening drive through historic downtown with Freddy every Monday through Saturday. This classic Studebaker fire engine has been fully restored to transport you through a piece of Hanford's past.
An evening spent downtown would not be complete without a delicious ice cream dessert from Superior Dairy. With friendly service and a great selection, you'll soon return to enjoy yet another evening out close to home.
